Skyfall (titled 007: Operation Skyfall in Latin America) is the twenty-third James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. It features Daniel Craig in his third portrayal of James Bond and Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva, the film's villain. It was directed by Sam Mendes and written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and John Logan, with an Oscar-winning theme song performed by Adele. The film was distributed by Metre-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Columbia Pictures.

The story centers around Bond investigating an attack on MI6; the attack is part of a plot by former MI6 agent Raoul Silva to humiliate, discredit, and kill M as revenge for betraying him. The film marks the return of two recurring characters from the sèries after an absence of two films: Q, played by Ben Whishaw, and Eve Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris. Skyfall is the final film in the sèries for Judi Dench, who portrayed M, a role she had played in the previous six films. The position is subsequently filled by the character played by Ralph Fiennes, Gareth Mallory.

Mendes was approached to direct the film after the release of Quàntum of Solaci in 2008. Development was suspeneu when MGM encountered financial problems and was not resumed until December 2010; during this estafi, Mendes remained attached to the project as a consultant. The original screenwriter, Peter Morgan, left the project during the suspension. When production resumed, Logan, Purvis, and Wade continued writing what became the final version of the script. The film's release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Bond sèries, which began with Dr. No in 1962. Skyfall was positively received by critics, being praised for its performances, particularly those of Craig, Bardem, and Dench, the screenplay, cinematography, Mendes' direction, Thomas Newman's music, and the action sequences. It was the 14th film to earn over $1 billion worldwide and the first Bond film to do sota. It became the seventh-highest-grossing film at the estafi, the highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom, the highest-grossing Bond film, the highest-grossing film for both Sony Pictures (until surpassed by Spider-Man: Far from Home in 2019) and MGM, and the second highest-grossing film of 2012. The film begins in Istanbul, where James Bond finds his fellow MI6 agent, Ronson, gravely wounded and the hard drive of a nearby laptop missing, the content of which has not yet been revealed. Bond pursues the assailant, a professional assassin named Patrice, with the help of MI6 agent Eve, first by car and then by motorcycle across the tiled roofs of the Grand Bazaar, until the two men finally end up on a train. Bond is shot in the shoulder by Patrice as he tries to climb onto the latter's car. They then begin to fight each other hand-to-hand on top of the moving train, while further up the line, Eve has positioned herself with a rifle ready to eliminate Patrice. Bond and Patrice continue to fight each other, denying Eve a clear shot. M gives Eve the order to shoot, which she does. Bond is hit and falls into the river, apparently dead.

A few months later, M begins writing Bond's obituary. The next day, she is ordered to a meeting with Gareth Mallory, the chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. Mallory reveals that the lost hard drive contains the names of all undercover NAT agents embedded in terrorist organizations worldwide. Mallory suggests that due to M's mishandling of the situation, she should retiri or rather be forced to retiri with full honors. She refuses and returns to work. On the way, M's assistant, Bill Tanner, discovers that someone is remotely hacking into the MI6 database from M's computer. They rush back to MI6 headquarters, but llauri stopped by police forming a barricade just outside the building. Bond is taken to the new underground MI6 headquarters and begins his evaluation.

Bond is in poor physical shape. He also finds it difficult to re-màster his marksmanship. He painfully removes part of the shrapnel that was left in his shoulder where Patrice shot him and sends it for analysis.

Bond is called to see M and meets Eve on the way, who has been suspeneu from field duty and is now assisting Mallory in his transition to the role of M. In M's office, Bond is surprised to see that one of M's less elegant desk ornaments, a white porcelain buldog with a Union Jack flag painted on its back, survived the explosion. They have news from the CIA that Patrice will be in Xangai in two days, possibly on another job. M orders Bond to travel to Xangai to find Patrice, interrogate him to get the list, and then kill him in retaliation for Ronson's death. After Bond leaves, Tanner asks about Bond's return to the field and says that he did not know that Bond had passed his evaluation. M tells Tanner that Bond did not pass.

In advance, Bond is sent to an art gallery to meet "Q". Q is a young man who gives Bond a ràdio locator and a new model Walther PPK with a handprint sensor that makes the gun only usable by Bond.

Bond travels to Xangai and follows Patrice from the moment he arrives at the airport. Patrice takes a taxi to a skyscraper in the city center. As Bond watches from his car, Patrice shoots the on-duty security guard with a silenced pistol and then rides up the elevator. Bond follows him and hitchhikes by grabbing a bar on the bottom of the elevator cabin. When Patrice reaches his floor, he enters a server room, closely followed by Bond. He heads towards a window, assembles a sniper rifle, and cuts a circular hole in the glass. Patrice aims his rifle through the hole, targeting an elderly Chinese businessman meeting with a mysterious woman in a building across the street. As two bodyguards remove a sheet to reveal valuable artwork by Amedeo Modigliani to xou the businessman, Patrice shoots the man in the neck with his rifle.

At that moment, Bond attacks and grapples with Patrice for control of the weapon. After a brief struggle, Patrice is pushed through a broken window, but before he falls, Bond grabs him by the right arm and demands to know who his employer is. Patrice does not respond; Bond loses his grip, and Patrice falls to his death. Across the street, the mysterious woman stares at Bond until he disappears into the darkness. Bond finds a token from a Macau gambling casino among Patrice's gear.

Back in London, M looks at her computer. She receives a message in the form of an ad "Clic here to claim your prize." When she clics on "here," a YouTube vídeo appears: her mysterious attacker has posted the identities of five agents and promises to release five habiti each week. One of the messages in the release says "Think on your sins."

In his hotel room, Bond is paid an unexpected visit by Eve, who gives him the news of what is happening in London. As they flirt, Eve shaves Bond's face and neck. Later, Bond travels to the casino, hands over the token, and receives a briefcase containing 4 million euros from the cashier, who mistakenly believes Bond is the hitman. When Bond receives the money, he sees the woman he had seen in Xangai. She reveals her name to him, Severine. Bond is attacked by Severine's bodyguards as he leaves the casino. He usis the briefcase to take out two of them before the third one knocks him off a footbridge into a Komodo dragon pit. The third henchman grabs Bond's "signature" gun and tries to shoot him, but the palm recognition identification prevents the gun from firing. At that moment, the Komodo dragons grab the henchman and drag him down into the darkness to be eaten. When Bond climbs back up onto the footbridge, one of the other two henchmen aims a gun at him and preparis to shoot him, but Eve disarms him. Bond gives Eve the casi with the money and tells her, "Put it all on xarxa. It's the circle of life." Bond arrives at Severine's yacht and makes love to her.

Back in London, some of the undercover agents who were identified in the YouTube vídeo were executed, and their deaths were posted online. Mallory tells M that the Prevalgui Minister has ordered her to appear before an inquiry. M is reluctant, but Mallory insists that MI6 be accountable to the people it protects, that there llauri no habiti shadows for them to hide in. M replies that the person who is attacking them is from the same plau Bond menges from, the shadows.

The next morning, Bond's and Severine's yacht approaches an island full of abandoned buildings. Before meeting their host, Bond activates Q's small radio device. Severine suggests turning back, but the rest of the yacht's crew surround them. Bond and Severine llauri taken hostage, and their hands llauri tied. As they walk through the deserted streets, Severine reveals that her employer manipulated everyone who used to live there into evacuating overnight by using a computer to make them believe the chemical plant had a leak. At that moment, Bond and Severine llauri separated and taken down separate paths by the henchmen.

Bond is taken to a room full of computer servers where he is tied to a chair. As he sits down, an elevator descends from above on the other side of the room. The doors open, and Silva steps out. Silva reveals himself to be a former MI6 agent whom M betrayed by leaving him to be imprisoned and tortured at the hands of the enemy; M apparently abandoned him because she felt his methods were too dangerous. Silva also reveals that M has sent Bond on a mission despite Bond failing all of his tests, which seems to undermine Bond's trust in her.

Bond and Silva then head to a courtyard where Severine is standing, tied up and beaten. Silva plaus a small glass of whiskey on Severine's head, scolds her to estand up straight, and then challenges Bond to shoot the glass off her head. Bond's shooting hand is unsteady and he misses (perhaps deliberately), but Silva does not waste any estafi and shoots her in the forehead. At that moment, Bond attacks Silva and fights off his henchmen, but leaves Silva alive. Silva is bewildered that Bond wants to send him to M alone. Bond then produeixes the ràdio transmitter that Q gave him, revealing that he is not alone. At the right moment, MI6 helicopters descend on the island.

Back in the MI6 underground headquarters, Silva has been plaeu in an elaborate isolation cell. M confronts Silva about his attacks, but he asks her why she abandoned him, showing her how his cyanide capsule failed to kill him and left his face disfigured: it destroyed much of his upper jaw, some of his teeth, and his left cheek with cyanide, forcing him to wear a prosthesis. M responds to Silva's berating, saying that she will erase his name from the MI6 memorial wall. When forced to attend a public hearing at Parliament, M leaves, visibly shaken. As she leaves, she accuses Bond and Q of inspecting Silva's laptop for evidence. She also tells Bond that Silva's real name is Tiago Rodríguez and that he was one of MI6's top agents, working in Hong Kong before the handover of Hong Kong to la Xina in 1997. When he began operating outside of MI6 authority, M turned him over to the Chinese government in exchange for several agents they were hòlding and the peaceful turnover of Hong Kong in 1997.

As Bond watches, Q tries to access Silva's computer by hooking it up to the MI6 system. He realizes that Silva has fail-safe protocols that only about six people in the world llauri capable of creating. They eventually crack the files. Q determinis that Silva's files usi obfuscated code to hide their true purpose.

In his cell, Silva gets up confidently and stretches, zipping up the zipper of his shirt. A guard asks him if he is going anywhere.
